Welcome to Year 5 & 6!
We’re really looking forward to an exciting and successful year ahead. Our aim is to ensure that every pupil feels motivated, challenged, and supported in developing resilience and independence! Our oldest children in the school are the role models to the rest of our school community and we think this is really important.
Throughout the year, children will be reading and discussing a wide range of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. They’ll be encouraged to explore new vocabulary, make predictions, and develop their inference skills through thoughtful questioning and discussion.
In writing, pupils will work with a variety of high-quality texts to inspire their own work. They’ll be producing non-chronological reports, narratives, setting descriptions, and biographies, while learning to incorporate new grammar and punctuation features to improve their writing.
In maths, children will be introduced to more advanced topics such as addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and fractions. Our goal is to help them think mathematically and solve problems using the most efficient methods.
Our PE days are Tuesday and Friday for 5/6H and 6/S and then Wednesday and Friday for 5.6R. Please make sure your child comes to school with the correct kit. For indoor PE, this includes a plain white T-shirt, black shorts, and black pumps. For outdoor PE, children should wear the same items along with a navy jumper or hoodie, navy tracksuit bottoms, and trainers or plimsolls. To help us keep track of belongings, please ensure all clothing and property are clearly labelled with your child’s name. For health and safety reasons, earrings should not be worn on PE days.
Homework will be set on a Friday and is due in on a Thursday.
If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
